What are the benefits of facial implants?
People who want changes in their bone structure, ranging from more prominent cheekbones to a more balanced overall facial appearance, may benefit from facial implants. The implants are made of biocompatible, synthetic material and are available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes.
How are implants placed?
If you decide to opt for a chin implant, Dr. Stella inserts it through a small incision underneath your chin. It is well hidden and usually heals with a barely noticeable scar. Sometimes liposuction is performed as well, during which Dr. Stella removes excess fatty tissue under the jaw line. She then uses fine sutures to close the incision, concluding the procedure with a tight dressing. In the case of cheek implants, Dr. Stella makes small incisions inside your mouth, under the upper lip, and places the implants there. She then uses dissolvable sutures to close it.
What can I expect after the procedure?
You can anticipate some swelling after the procedure. Dr. Stella will check you the day after surgery to ensure that you are progressing well. You should experience minimal pain, which you can control with prescribed medications. You may need to follow a soft food diet for a few days after surgery. Dr. Stella will remove the sutures in about a week, and the swelling gradually resolves over the next month.
