How is IPL performed?
A cool gel is usually applied to the area to be treated, and you will be given dark glasses to protect your eyes from the bright light. You may feel a slight sting, like the snapping of a small rubber band. An anesthetic cream is used, and there is usually minimal, if any, discomfort. Treatment is generally administered in a series of 4 to 6 sessions once a month that provide excellent long-term results, minimal adverse effects and high satisfaction. Each treatment takes about thirty to fifty minutes.
Why are multiple treatments necessary?
Dividing the full program into several treatments provides gradual improvement with very low risk and essentially no downtime. Depending on the number and severity of conditions being treated, a series of 4 to 6 sessions may be recommended. You can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities.
How do other treatments compare to IPL?
Numerous treatments from simple creams to major procedures exist to improve various skin flaws. However, our goal is to provide, whenever possible, dramatic improvement with low risk and no down time. Photo rejuvenation using IPL is an example: this non-invasive treatment treats aging skin damage without disruption of the skin's surface and no down time. IPL can safely and effectively treat a wide range of facial concerns, such as broken capillaries, benign brown pigment, age spots (sun-induced freckles), and mottled pigmentation. IPL is one of the best devices used to provide long-term improvement of skin tone and complexion without the interruption of your busy lifestyle.
What conditions can IPL treat?
Imperfection from sun damage and photo-aging: The signs of photo-aging and sun damage are typically most visible on a person's face, neck, and chest and can detract from your well being and appearance, no matter how healthy and young you feel. IPL technology helps create a more even, bright skin tone. After a series of treatments, you can enjoy a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation. The same treatment can be used effectively on the neck, chest, arms and hands.
Benign vascular lesions and redness, broken veins and capillaries: Your face contains an extensive network of veins and tiny blood vessels called capillaries. Over time, aging, trauma, sun exposure, and certain lifestyle factors can cause some of them to break, resulting in red streaks or blotches on the face. IPL therapy can help eliminate the red patches and damaged veins and capillaries without injuring the surrounding healthy skin.
At our practice in Seattle, an IPL treatment can be combined with the following for more extensive rejuvenation:
