ActiveFX™ Skin Rejuvenation

ActiveFX Model Image

ActiveFX™ is a fractional laser skin resurfacing procedure that gives Seattle women and men impressive results in a single office treatment, with minimal downtime. Fractional resurfacing has emerged as the new gold standard for treating aging skin changes. During the procedure, the laser is used to smooth out lines, wrinkles and scars, remove brown spots and other irregularities, and tighten the skin. It also stimulates formation of new underlying collagen that will continue to improve over time.

With a fractional laser treatment, only a fraction of the skin's surface is treated by the laser, leaving small "bridges" of untouched skin. This speeds the healing process and enables you to get back to normal activities in a small amount of time.

Dr. Stella Desyatnikova always makes time to ensure she understands exactly what her patients need, and is very skilled at performing laser skin resurfacing. She has advanced training in facial plastic surgery and is board certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, as well as Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, and is very knowledgeable about the facial anatomy.

Who is a good candidate for this procedure?

A good candidate for this Seattle facial rejuvenation procedure is any individual who wants to correct sun damage, sun spots and uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, or scarring. ActiveFX skin rejuvenation improves skin tone, texture, and tightness. It is most commonly used on the face, but we also can use it to treat the skin on your neck, chest, and hands.

What is involved in this procedure?

We usually perform this procedure in the office with a topical anesthetic cream that is applied 45 to 60 minutes before the ActiveFX procedure begins. There is little to moderate discomfort associated with the procedure. Most patients say they feel warmth similar to sunburn.

We usually give patients a mild oral sedative, so you will need someone to drive you home after the procedure. Swelling and redness with some crusting is expected after the procedure. The recovery takes about 7 to 14 days, and you should take a break from work during this period. With a gentle washing and moisturizing regimen, your photo damaged skin will begin to flake off within 2 days. After about 4 to 5 days, you can start wearing make-up. Any redness should be gone in about a week to two weeks.
