Eyebrows form the frame of the face. Low, sagging brows often convey the expression of unhappiness, fatigue, or depression. If this is the case, a forehead lift can be performed to rejuvenate the upper half of the face and to correct the horizontal lines and furrows which age the face.
Who is a good candidate for this procedure?
Generally, this procedure is performed on patients between the ages of 40 and 60 years old to combat the appearance of aging, though younger patients with excessive horizontal lines or furrows on the forehead or heavy brows can also benefit from this procedure.
What is involved in this procedure?
A browlift may be performed in office under a local anesthetic in conjunction with sedating medication or in the hospital under a general anesthetic, depending on patient preference and health history.
Dr Desyatnikova will discuss with you your options for a browlift and the different methods which can be utilized. The two popular methods are the classic approach or coronal browlift and the endoscopic approach.
A classic browlift involves an incision which starts at ear level and runs across the top of the forehead to the other side of the head. The incision is usually well hidden in the hairline. Excess skin and underlying tissue is then removed and lifted and the incision is closed with sutures.
An endoscopic browlift involves several small incisions in the forehead rather than one long incision. An endoscope, which is a thin camera devise attached to a monitor, is then inserted into the incisions allowing the doctor a clear view of the tissue underneath the skin. Through the small incisions, excess tissue is removed and lifted and the incisions are then closed with sutures.
Dr Desyatnikova will usually see you in the office the next day to remove your dressing and to inspect your incisions and surgical area, making sure you are progressing well. The sutures are removed in about seven to ten days. Some swelling and bruising is expected after the surgery. It can be minimized by the use of head elevation and cold compresses, as well as by making sure all the post-operative instructions are followed. The recovery takes about two weeks and leave from work should be arranged.
Can additional procedures be performed?
Certain cosmetic procedures may effectively enhance the rejuvenating effect of a browlift; these may include facelift or mini-facelift, eyelid lift and skin resurfacing, among others. Your doctor will discuss whether you may benefit from additional procedures.
