With the tremendous advances in the beauty technology and skincare, as well as with the ever increasing pressures of the workplace, men want to maintain their youthful looks, to reflect their strong spirit and energy. Cosmetic surgery and related procedures in the United States have increased 32 per cent last year to 8.7 million with Botox anti-wrinkle injection treatments being the most popular. Men comprise a large portion of plastic surgery patients. Among the top plastics surgery procedures for men are: Botox injections, rhinoplasty, and eyelid surgery. 14 per cent of Botox injections, 15 per cent of eyelid surgeries, 20 per cent of laser hair removal and 24 per cent of nose jobs are carried out on men.
Plastic surgery in men utilizes many of the same procedures and surgical principles as in women. However, there are differences in the anatomy and physiology of male skin and facial structures, and differences in facial aesthetics that determine how your surgeon will address your procedure.
For example, facial skin in men contains hair. This usually means greater blood supply with better healing, but higher risk of bleeding. Another example is doing blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) surgery in men. The surgeon has to be cognizant of different aesthetic features of the male and female eyes, and perform surgery with this in mind, to avoid creating an unnatural feminizing look for a man.
