Dr. Desyatnikova performs a large number of facial reconstruction procedures, mostly for facial skin cancer and associated defects, and congenital facial defects. Skin cancer is a common problem, and is frequently treated by Mohs' method by specially trained dermatologic surgeons. After the completion of the procedure the cancer is removed, but the patients are often left with a large and potentially disfiguring defect. Dr. Desyatnikova has been providing restorative surgery for these patients for the past many years. Many different reconstructive techniques can be used, depending on the nature of the problem. They range from a simple scar revision to a complex transfer of tissue flaps from other part of the face and neck. These procedures can repair damaged body parts and restore most patients to acceptable appearance and function.
The following photographs illustrate large facial defects before and after reconstructive surgery. Due to the graphic nature, please, exercise discretion in reviewing the images.
