Who should I go to for BOTOX treatments?

Dr. Stella Desyatnikova has extensive training and experience in administering BOTOX. She has advanced training in facial plastic surgery and is board certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, as well as Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery. She is on the teaching faculty for Allergan, Medicis, and Palette aesthetic courses and has been training other doctors and nurses how to administer BOTOX Cosmetic and fillers for years. Her caring spirit allows her to relate well to her patients and understand exactly what they need.

How much do BOTOX injections cost?

In Seattle, the average cost of BOTOX is about $300 to $500 per treatment area, but be sure to choose an experienced, qualified injector to get the best results. At our practice, the actual cost is based on the extent of your cosmetic concerns. If you compare the price of BOTOX at different practices, it's important to distinguish between charging per unit or per treatment area.

What is the main ingredient in BOTOX Cosmetic?

Botox Cosmetic Logo

BOTOX Cosmetic is made with a purified protein, onabotulinumtoxin A, that temporarily blocks the chemicals that cause facial muscles to contract. It is an FDA-approved product that has been successfully used for therapeutic purposes for more than 15 years. BOTOX has been approved for cosmetic purposes since 2002.

How does BOTOX work for wrinkles?

Once injected into the muscles that create your facial wrinkles, BOTOX temporarily stops the muscles from contracting, which enables the wrinkles to gradually soften. Injectable fillers work differently; these products smooth away wrinkles instantly by filling them in from within the skin.

What are the benefits of BOTOX treatments?

BOTOX treatments safely and effectively soften wrinkles caused by the contractions of facial muscles, called dynamic wrinkles. Common areas of treatment include:

  • Horizontal forehead creases
  • Vertical lines between the eyebrows called frown lines or glabellar lines
  • Wrinkles at the outer corners of the eyes called crow's feet

Dr. Stella can also use BOTOX as a proactive treatment to prevent wrinkles in younger patients.

What's the difference between fillers and BOTOX?

BOTOX and injectable fillers are both safe, effective wrinkle treatments. BOTOX is used to soften wrinkles by targeting their cause, the facial muscles that create the wrinkles. Fillers such as RADIESSE® and Restylane® can be used to restore lost volume within the skin to fill folds and wrinkles. Fillers such as JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC can replace volume beneath the skin, filling out sunken cheeks and hollows under the eyes. Fillers produce instant results; BOTOX starts to take effect in a few days. Both treatments provide temporary results.

What can I expect during a BOTOX treatment?

BOTOX treatments are performed in our office and require only about 10 minutes to complete. The injections use a short, fine needle, so discomfort is minimal. Some redness may be present at the injection site after the treatment, but it usually resolves within a few hours.

What should I avoid after my BOTOX treatment to prevent complications?

For best results, you should keep your head elevated, postpone exercise, and avoid touching treated areas for at least a few hours after treatment. You may return to your other regular daily activities right away.

It's most important to choose a highly trained and experienced BOTOX injector. While there is the possibility of side effects with BOTOX injections, proper screening by a knowledgeable doctor who understands the complex anatomy of the face will minimize these risks.

How soon will I see BOTOX results?

Within a few days after your BOTOX treatment, your lines will begin to smooth out. The appearance of the areas injected may continue to improve for up to 2 weeks.

How does BOTOX treat gummy smile?

BOTOX is a good option for reduction of a "gummy smile," which is the appearance of excessive gums when smiling. Although not medically significant, gummy smile is an aesthetic concern that can cause intense feelings of self‐consciousness.

As an experienced facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Stella is well versed in facial muscle anatomy, in particular, the muscles responsible for gummy smile. Treatment involves using BOTOX to reduce activity in certain muscles of the face, preventing the lips from retracting significantly when smiling. Dr. Stella's gummy smile patients can still smile and make a full range of facial expressions, but are pleased to discover that, after treatment, their lips no longer expose a large amount of gum when they smile.

While this approach isn't a permanent solution for gummy smile, it can create results that last for several months. Patients may return for touch‐up treatments when they notice symptoms returning.

"The Stella Center is amazing! Dr. Stella and her staff are so welcoming and knowledgeable, and I was very pleased with the results of her work (Botox and lip filler). Dr. Stella really takes her time, especially with the lip filler."
- Sarah L., Yelp review

How often should I have BOTOX treatments?

The smooth look from your first BOTOX treatment will last about 3 to 4 months, after which the lines will gradually return. With regular treatments, patients often notice that their improvements last longer than 4 months.

Does BOTOX improve the results of other procedures?

Dr. Stella often performs BOTOX and injectable filler treatments because they have distinct benefits and together provide a more complete facial rejuvenation. She can also use BOTOX to maintain or "touch up" results of facial cosmetic surgery procedures such as a brow lift or facelift.

Does BOTOX have other uses besides getting rid of wrinkles?

Yes. This very versatile product can provide a variety of other benefits including:

  • Providing a non‐surgical brow lift
  • Reducing the appearance of vertical neck bands
  • Improving the appearance of a gummy smile
  • Controlling excessive underarm sweating
  • Preventing migraine headaches

As a board‐certified Facial Plastic Surgeon and Otolaryngologist, Dr. Stella has specialized knowledge and training in the use of BOTOX and therefore is able to safely administer it for a wide range of concerns.
