Who is a good candidate for microneedling?

The ideal candidate for a microneedling procedure is a healthy man or woman who wants to correct one or more common aesthetic concerns — such as uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, or scarring — without surgery or harsh chemicals.

What are the benefits of this procedure?

Microneedling is extremely beneficial for skin and helps in the following ways:

  • Stimulates increased circulation and collagen production within the skin
  • Stimulates tissue regeneration
  • Non-allergenic, so it can be performed on any skin type
  • Stimulates the growth of new collagen fibers that elevate depressed scar tissue
  • Reduces the appearance of pores
  • Encourages topical products to penetrate deeper into the skin for enhanced absorption of active ingredients

What can I expect during the procedure?

Eclipse Micropen

We typically perform this procedure in the office, using a topical anesthetic that we apply 10 minutes before the procedure begins. Thanks to the anesthetic and tiny needle size, there is little discomfort associated with the procedure.

During the treatment, a sterile cartridge attached to the Eclipse MicroPen creates superficial "microchannels" in the skin. We then apply a soothing serum to your skin. The presence of the channels makes your skin more receptive to the active ingredients, which can include hyaluronic acid, growth factors, and even your own platelet-rich plasma. We help you choose the right combination of products for your skin.

One of the advantages of the Eclipse over other microneedling devices is that the Eclipse offers a variety of settings for both superficial and deep treatments depending on your specific concerns. The procedure generally lasts about 30 minutes and requires virtually no downtime.

If your treatment plan requires a deeper setting, you may experience some residual redness for up to 2 to 4 days. However, you can resume your usual activities immediately after treatment.

Additional Treatments

For optimal anti-aging benefits and rejuvenation, we recommend most patients to receive a series of 3 to 6 treatments, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. For more severe acne scarring, a patient may require at least 6 to 8 treatments to achieve the full benefits of automated microneedling.

Patients will notice an immediate "glow" to their skin, with visible changes to the skin developing over the course of several days. Patients will continue to see improvement up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.
