Lines, folds, and the development of hollow areas where there used to be volume can be problematic–and common–signs of facial aging. When over-the-counter products aren't enough, but surgery might be too much, injectable dermal fillers such as Restylane here in Seattle, Washington can help fill in the gap.

What is Restylane?

Made from a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid (HA), Restylane is a smooth gel that's injected through a very fine needle into areas of lost volume. It's also used to fill in moderate to severe lines and wrinkles. Restylane is FDA approved and comes in an array of formulations, such as Restylane Lyft® and Restylane Silk®, to appropriately treat different areas of the face. Restylane and other injectable fillers can be used in conjunction with one another for complete results.

Is Restylane right for me?

Restylane is highly versatile, and its safety and effectiveness are well-established. It's a great option for treating the following aesthetic concerns:

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Vertical lines around the lips
  • Thin lips
  • Marionette lines
  • Sunken or hollow-looking cheeks
  • Tear troughs
  • Certain aesthetic concerns of the nose

What can I expect during the treatment?

Although Restylane is used for different purposes, most treatments are straightforward. Dr. Stella uses a cleansing pad to clear away any makeup or dirt on your skin and to sterilize the area. Each Restylane product is pre-formulated with the numbing agent lidocaine, and Dr. Stella gives you the option of using a topical anesthetic to further enhance your comfort. Dr. Stella carefully sculpts your treatment areas by adding soft volume to areas you'd like to fill. Typically, most Restylane appointments last for about 30 minutes, making it an easy way for even busy people to look their best.

Is there downtime after a Restylane treatment?

No. Some localized side effects such as bleeding, bruising, and swelling are common, but these usually go away on their own within a few days. There's no reason to not get back to your normal daily activities immediately after your appointment.

What kind of results can I expect?

The results of your Restylane treatment are instantly appreciable. Once your appointment is over, you'll notice soft, natural-looking volume in your treatment areas, with fewer visible wrinkles. You may also notice a subtle lift in certain areas, especially your cheeks. Although the longevity of your results depends on which products were used and where on your face they were administered, you may enjoy your new look for up to a year or longer.
